Mount Rushmore, Black Hills & Devils Tower

Mount Rushmore.....nothing exciting to say but that it is a really cool rock carving of four Presidents.

The Black Hills are aptly named, but if you want to see them in all their glory you better do it soon....they are loosing thousands of trees every year to the Mountain Pine Beetle.  This is a very tragic problem that is caused by campers carrying firewood from state to state...so please remember to burn all your firewood or leave it in the state you purchased it.

In this picture you can see the huge bald spot on the back mountain, where they've lost trees.

Driving through a huge forest this rock formation was just on the side of the road.

Fall in the Black Hills

After spending the night in Spearfish, South Dakota we headed to Devil's Tower.  This is a rock formation that draws thousands of rock climbers to it every year.  We met a young couple in the brewery the previous night that were going to climb the rock the next morning, this would be his first climb; she is an experienced climber.  More power to both of them, I had trouble just watching the climbers.

The size of Devil's Tower is intimidating from over a mile away!

See I told you they were so damn cute!

You can see the rock climbers in this picture.

The top of this formation is as big as a football field and dome like so even after you climb up you aren't on flat ground.  I understand that it is just you, fellow rock climbers, chipmunks and a few snakes up there.

I know, I know enough already with the prairie dogs.

This is were the adventure part comes in, we decided to venture far North into Montana to see Glacier National Park, knowing full well that there was a winter storm on it's way.  Alas it can't be an adventure without a little excitement can it?
