The Badlands National Park

After driving through prairie and farmland we came upon Badlands National Park, felt like we had landed on another planet....hiked through the prairies and the most unique rock formations.  Saw prairie dogs, long horn sheep, a wolf  and herds of bison.  The pictures are worth more than my words!

One of the many prairies we drove through.

Then we see this!

Long Horn Sheep

Needless to say the Kayak never came off the roof in the Badlands.

Even the mountains want PEACE.

Don't even know what to say when you see something like this.

Prairie Dogs are the cutest.

There weren't many but what flowers you did find were beautiful.

Prairie in between the mountains.

Fall in the Badlands is even beautiful.

Guess he couldn't resist making sure we knew he was a male.

Bison traffic jam.

After spending the previous day driving through the Badlands we decided to take a hike on the Castle Trail. It was a warm dry day, we hiked nearly 8 miles through the rocks and prairie. Definitely the best way to really see the Badlands.   This lovely Mama Mule Deer and her baby greeted us at the beginning of our trail.

The start of our trail and one of the markers that we needed to find and follow.

Can you see our trail or a marker?  Fortunately we could see the trail.

We hiked up a little ways to get this view.

Balancing Rock.....not a very original name is it.

Hawk looking for a snack.

These rock formations are a good depiction of our Trails name.

Trey stayed hydrated on our hike!
This little guy fortunately didn't become the hawks snack.

The end of our hike at the end of the day!

These guinea fowl hung around our campsite.

Along with this lovely little meadowlark

We are headed to the Black Hills from here.
